It's Official!

After a wonderful buffet breakfast at the hotel (green bean congee, scambled eggs, and yogurt for Ava) we went to the Civil Affairs office to finalize the adoption. Chen Gui Yu is now officially Ava Guiyu Greenlees. We had a family picture taken, answered a few questions, had our thumb prints taken, had Ava's foot print stamped on a paper, and gave our fees, orphanage donation, and gifts. It was all very smooth and easy. Everyone was so helpful and nice.

The orphanage representatives were back today, and we were able to ask them a couple more questions. We haven't been able to get Ava to take a bottle at all, and we were hoping they could give us some advice. They actually came back to the hotel with us to pick up something they had forgotten, and while Jay was upstairs getting it, I explained (through Emma) our bottle feeding problems.

Jay came down with a bottle so that we could show them how she resists it (she would actually cry at the sight of the bottle), and of course as soon as we gave it to her, she latched right on and drained it dry in about 5 minutes. I think everyone must think we are a little nutty now. I would guess that the stress of the previous day was just getting to her. I am sure she is missing her routine and her caregivers from the orphanage, and she just didn't want to take a botttle from us. We are hoping she will continue to eat well from now on (fingers crossed).

  3. Yay! Congratulations now sweet Ava is all yours! Our daughter was the same about the bottle for the first few days, things we found helped was cutting a cross on the nipple so that the flow was fast, keeping the forumla temp fairly hot and also she took it more easily in the early morning hours in bed with us. I think because it was still dark in the room so everything was less overwhelming. She never got really keen on it though so just while we were traveling we also let her have juice too which she took much more happily - no doubt due to the novelty!
